Art is like an escape

“Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.” - Twyla Tharp

Art can come in many forms and be viewed by others in many different ways, but one similarity among all art pieces is that they have the ability to relieve one from their worries. To give in to the catchy rhythm of a song, get mesmerized by the colors of a painting, or to even get lost in a book that takes you along an adventure. These are just some of the many ways you can escape for even just five minutes from whatever seems to be bothering you.

Without art, we are left in the hands of our darkest thoughts and most painful emotions. Being indulged in these feelings for too long can be harmful to us. When distracting ourselves with art, we let even a little bit of our happiness shine through and it helps us get back on track to whatever we wanted in the first place. Art reminds us of what we may forget while dealing with the ups and downs of our everyday lives.

The escape we feel is essential. It allows us to face our reality from a new perspective and gives us the power to tackle it in a new and even better way. The five minutes you give yourself to take a step back and relax helps you come back from the escape with a better mindset. Thoughts that everything will be okay and thankfulness for everything you already have will be fresh in your mind.

Without art, it can be challenging to get through life's obstacles. This is why art truly is a gift that has so many benefits. So if you’re ever feeling down or searching for an escape for just a little while, don’t be afraid to turn to art as its advantages go a long way.
