Have you ever seen those drawings where
the head is large compared to the body,
almost like a bobblehead-like figure? Well
that’s actually a caricature. A caricature is
an image showing the features of its
subject in a simplified or exaggerated way, or emphasized way. Caricature means “to exaggerate” or “to load.” Used for comedic reasons, you can see caricature art in ads, political cartoons, etc. You can see caricature artists when touring famous cities such as New York City. In fact, caricature art dates back to the 1590s.

Al Hirschfeld, an example of a famous
caricature artist. He was known for his
unusual linear style, and he included clear
lines with little shading. He was known for his black and white portraits and had most of his drawings in black ink. He drew caricatures for newspapers, periodicals, and Broadway shows. In fact, his caricature artwork appeared in The New York Times. In fact, his illustrations were used in the movie poster for Wizard of Oz.
