Still Life

Still Life is an expressive example of art that shows inanimate objects and depicts another way of looking at that inanimate

object. Often still life encompasses fruit, flowers, baskets, or bowls. Still life has been a form of art from way back then.

We have seen still life in ancient Egyptian tombs that were decorated with Still Life paintings. We have also seen this in the Netherlands during the 1600s as well. Many artists often test new perspectives and arrangement of objects. They often emphasize color, texture, and lighting.

Basket of Fruit By Caravaggio

The Basket Of Fruit is an example of a Still Life piece of art made by Caravaggio. In this painting, a basket is filled with fruit and leaves. His style relied on the use of dark backgrounds with clear light on the objects of his paintings. We can see the fruits are popping out of the canvas. It resembles the passing of time, as the fresh

fruits are being eaten by worms and the leaves are dried out.

Campbell’s Soup Cans

Campbell’s Soup Cans is an extremely famous Still Life painting still known to this day. This was an iconic still life depicting consumer products. It was drawn on

canvas, and projected. The logo was stamped on an eraser.
