The Science Behind ART
Ever wondered about the science behind art? Well, continue reading to find out everything you need to know.
“The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.” - Alberto Giacometti

Something not often spoken too much about is the science behind art. In fact, it can be said that science and art work hand in hand. For example, life and the world are full of many possibilities which can sometimes be hard for our minds to grasp. Art is then able to jump in to paint a picture of the nature of the universe that we didn’t understand at first with just the scientific explanation. This can also work the other way, with science helping us further explore a piece of art.
To dive deeper, it can be said that art has a direct impact on brains. They have the ability to be influenced by artistic pieces and when participating in art-related activities, transforming the way we view the world and people around us. Art allows us to expand on our thoughts and ideas in a creative manner. To some, art may just be paint and paper, but to many others, it’s the outlet that lets them express concepts that wouldn’t be able to reach their same significance if it was just in words.
Furthermore, art has been proven again and again to improve the function of brains. Art is often used as a form of therapy and it serves well in its abilities. Studies show that art influences brain wave patterns, emotions, and usually elevates serotonin levels as well. In fact, a study performed by a professor at University College London found that when people viewed a piece of art they found beautiful, their blood flow would increase as high as by 10 percent to the part of the brain affiliated with pleasure. This is the same reaction that occurs in our brains when we see someone we love! These results occur not only from viewing pieces of art but also from creating them!
As you can see, there’s a lot of science behind art. Hopefully, this not only helped you better understand the power of art but also inspired you to go engage in some artistic activities.
